2010年6月3日

Saga is currently free of Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD)

What is FMD?

FMD is a viral disease affecting cloven-hoofed animals such as cattle, pigs, goats, sheep, deer, and boars.

When animals are infected with FMD, the following symptoms will be shown: high fever, excessive secretion of foamy saliva, and blisters in the mouth and between the hooves.

Also, this virus is highly contagious. Although it depends on the surrounding conditions, it survives for extended periods of time. The FMD virus can be spread by direct contact with infected animals or by infected animals’ wastes transmitted to humans or vehicles.
