The Japan-Korea Coastal Straits Internal Exchange Program
The Japan-Korea Coastal Straits Prefecture-City-Province Governor’s Internal
Exchange Conference and the Joint Exchange Program carry out a broad and
varied range of exchanges. These programs are
operated by 4 Japanese Prefectures, (Fukuoka, Saga, Nagasaki and Yamaguchi from Kyushu/Yamaguchi area) and 1 City and 3 Provinces of
South Korea, (Busan City, Jeollanamdo Province, Gyeongsangnamdo Province, Jejudo Province).

Internal Exchange Conference

○The Coastal Straits of Japan-Korea Youth Exchange Project: Japanese and Korean high school students visit each other once a year
Date: July 2006
Place: Gyeongsangnamdo Provincce
○Friendship Event between Coastal South Korea and Northern Kyushu Residents
Japanese and Korean residents from Prefectures-Cities-Provinces gather
together to participate in sport and cultural events and open the Exchange
Reception aiming at goodwill and friendship between Japan and Korea at
the local level.

Running in conjunction to the above programs are the Environmental Techniques
Exchange Program, the Marine Industry Exchange Program, the Economic Exchange
Promotion Program, the Tourism Promotion Program, the Traditional Crafts
Exchange Program, the Japan-Korea Exchange of History Promotion Program
and the Information Network Program.
The Japan Exchange and Teaching Programme (JET Programme)
For the purpose of promoting internationalization and enhancement of foreign
language education at the local level in Japan. Positions include:
1. Coordinator for International Relations (CIR): CIRs are involved in international exchange programmes, teaching and language
interpreting and translating.
2. Assistant Language Teacher (ALT): ALTs teach English at elementary, junior and senior high schools.
This Programme has been running since 1987 and is sponsored by the Japanese
Government.
There are six CIRs. Two are employed by the International Affairs Division and one is employed
in the Nagoya Castle Museum, the Saga City Hall, the Tosu City Hall and the Arita Town Hall. The number of ALTs belonging to Prefectural Board of Education totals 29,
and there are 63 others placed in smaller cities, towns and villages.
There is one employed by a private school.
The Overseas
Technical Trainees Program
We invite upstanding young people who promise to lead their countries into
a brighter future, drowing from South American and Asian countries with
which we have strong Prefectural relationships. We offer the Trainees the opportunity to acquire advanced technical skills
at enterprises and facilities in Saga in order for them to train talented
people who will contribute to developing their own countries. This program also has facilitates the
deepening friendships between their countries and Saga citizens.

Local Government
Employee Exchange Program
Saga Prefecture accepts local government employees from
overseas as trainees. This program aims to pass on Saga Prefecture’s knowledge and techniques on how to organize local government and promote
internationalization of Saga's districts through the trainees’ incorporation
in each exchange program.
Training term: 10 months
